All-Ireland club JFC: Goals see Emyvale through

January 25, 2010
Emyvale (Monaghan) 3-7 Dunedin Connolly's (Edinburgh) 0-8 Three well-timed goals by Emyvale saw them brush aside Dunedin Connolly's of Edinburgh yesterday at Newry and claim their place in the last four of the All-Ireland club Junior Football Championship. The Ulster champions stated their intent early on when Robbie McHugh snuck in behind the Connolly's defence after a minute and produced a great save from Tom O'Connor before Gavin Kernan parried the rebound to the net. The Edinburgh side posted some decent replies over, but Monaghan senior Benny McKenna had O'Connor picking the ball out of the net for the second time with a devastating shot which found the bottom corner and it was Emyvale that lead by 2-4 to 0-3 at the break. The winners pushed on after the restart and opened a nine-point gap in the 13th minute, before Frank Molly and Alan Ward could pull back responses from Connolly's, but the issue was well and truly settled when Bernard O'Brien struck for Emyvale's third goal with nine minutes remaining. Emyvale now face Mayo and Connacht champions Kiltimagh next weekend to decide which team goes through to represent their province in the All-Ireland final at Croke Park.
