Monaghan seek Meagher Cup status

Monaghan will submit a motion to tomorrow's Special Congress seeking to be regraded to the Lory Meagher Cup, which is the fourth tier of the hurling championship.
The Farneymen were relegated from the Nicky Rackard Cup this year after losing all of their matches and then a relegation playoff to Sligo. But because of the knock-on effect from Carlow's promotion to the Liam McCarthy Cup and the absence of a relegated team from the Christy Ring Cup, the Rackard Cup will remain an eight-team tier.
That means Monaghan won't be relegated and face the prospect of suffering further heavy defeats from counties that are of a superior standard to them.
"All we are looking for is fairness," Monaghan boss Frank Brady said.
"We're out of our depth in the Rackard Cup and will be again next year. If we stay a Rackard Cup team for 2010, I'd fear that players will play the league and then taped off for the championship."
