County Hurling Final

(Oldest Posts First)

Congratulations to Glenealy worthy 4 in a row County Senior Hurling Champions.

So proud of our Bray lads who fought tooth and nail and gave a great display. We might have come up short this year but we will be back.

The hurling final was excellent on Sunday in very difficult conditions. I was very impressed with Bray's challenge. Leighton Glynn the key difference between the teams on the day. Glenealy were very wasteful in the first half despite Bray playing the better hurling. Where I feel Bray lost the game was the key first 10 minutes of the second half where they seemed to want to 'rough' Glenealy up. This worked against them, in that it distracted them from the fine hurling they had been playing. It was a good advertisement for Wicklow hurling. Bray will be chsmpions in no more than 2-3 years. It's inevitable.

Good game of hurlin alright, but Glenaly didnt look at their best,Glynn 1 man show. They were better again Carnu.Bray might well win a final in next few years, but not inevitable wicklowman,They sais same about Waterford 10 years ago win all ireland in few years ,never happened.Carnu be stronger next year along with Glenaly and Avondale.Bray didnt beat any of them teams this year,Pats only team they beat.

While it is true that both Carnew and Glenealy are teams that are in transition there is no guarantee that Bray will automatically start winning championships. What is true to say is that Bray have being doing huge work with an increasing panel of players both underage and adult. We now have a credible expectation of future glory which is based on this strong bedrock of coaching excellence. Yes Carnew have some nice young players coming through and this is to be welcomed by any county supporter. Yes Glenealy are beginning to look a little more aged but they too have some exciting young players coming through and they are now beginning the drive for five and rightly will demand and be given the respect that they due and deserve. St Patricks and Avondale are showing some potential and will always give teams problems. Eire Og Greystones as the new arrivals will most likely take a bit of time to bed in to senior ranks but they will with the help of their excellent young up and coming players bed in quickly enough and should possibly take some big scalp in the coming year. All in all we as a county have a lot to look forward to in our senior championship for 2014. The only blip on the landscape is the extinction of hurling in Kiltegan. It is clear that winning the football championship a few years back actually sounded the death knell for hurling in the club. Also the lamentable state of hurling in Arklow must be addressed.

Glenealy hammered home. 1 point from play a shocking return. Lot of people constantly tell you that Glenealy really dont care about Leinster Club. This result gives more to those people.

No-drama i think you are being a bit harsh on Glenaly, according to papers they were beatin by 9 points and only had half their regular team on duty,i was talking to a couple of Wexford men who were at match and had been at Wicklow final they said the Glenaly wud have won with the team they had out that day, anyway 9 points not hammerin in hurlin St.Pats were beaten by 25 points last year in football by Portlaoise and i think they didnt get a score in one half, now that is what you wud call a hammerin.
