Blessington club notes

August 30, 2021

Good evening everyone on what has been a very busy weekend. We had plenty of football and we also hosted both the Boy’s & the Girl’s Feile competitions on Saturday and Sunday. Reports on the games will follow further in the notes but there are so many people to thank in preparation to the games taking place. First of all to Trevor who did a fantastic job in organizing the rota for the pitches and accommodating everyone this weekend. To Nessa, Paul, Noreen, Michelle and Kevin for putting up all the flags and bunting. To Lisa, Noreen, Mary & Julianne for running the shop and keeping everyone fed and hydrated. Sinead Johnston who was a great support with the Health & Safety, and to Paddy & Michael who were on hand both days to look after the car parking. All of your help is greatly appreciated.

Senior Men travelled to Aughrim on Saturday for their first championship match. The lads were 2 points down at halftime but came out of the blocks in the 2nd half and went on to win 1-16 to 1-08, scoring 1-15 from play. Our scores came from Anto Mc Loughlin 0-05, Patrick O’Connor 1-01 Michael O’Connor 0-05, Eoin Keogh 0-03, and Curtis Geraghty 0-02. Thanks to everyone who travelled to support the lads, it was great to hear the roar of the crowd behind us.

Minors:

Big week this week for the minors, on Monday 30th the lads are at home V Table toppers St Nicks at 6:45pm with another game at home V 3rd place Baltinglass on Saturday at 6:30pm, Good performances in both games will set team up well for the final run of games in the championship.

U15 Feile

We started our Feile with game against Eire Og, lads played fantastic football and Battled right to end of Match and only lost out by narrowest margin 1 point.

Game 2 we played An Tochar and asked lads to lift heads following loss in first game and that they done and we battled with An Tochar for second time in Two weeks. Again we lost by 1 point but lads gave there all.

Game 3 we knew we had nothing to play for only our Pride following two finest margins losses. We lost unfortunately to Annacurra also.

But from all Coaches we want to take this opportunity to say our 24 lads on Panel played their hearts out today and its all we ever ask our Squad to do.

Heads up lads it's a long year yet.

Eire Og went on to win Group overall so well done to them  but our lads can take heart from 1 point Defeat to them in our game.

Also congrats to Seniors on win today in Champ from u15 Group

Especially Coach Eoin Keogh and his 3 nice points.

U12’s Travelled to Balinakill to Play St Pats in the championship, Knowing a win would keep them in line to make the Semi Finals.

The lads were a bit slow to start and St Pats went into a 2-1 lead, After a good chat at the water break Blesso really kicked into gear and never looked back. The lads were brilliant to a man and everyone stood up all over the pitch and won their individual battles.

Callum Jordan Dempsey , Fred Dick & Oisin Kelly really worked there socks off but Our man of the match goes to a guy who’s only playing Gaa a few months Jack Valentine … Next up Eire og at home on Monday night…

Final Score

Blesso 10-8 St Pats 3-5

Scores,  Dylan Callaghan 4-2,James Mc Carney 2-1,Fiacha Duffy 1-2,Fred Dick 1-1,Ryan Sargent 1-1,Luke Deniffe 1-0,Conor Fitz 0-1.

Super performance from the Under 10 boys on Wednesday evening in a Wicklow League game away against a strong and physical An Tochar side. Nothing fazed the boys, they were strong, aggressive and never gave up. They came into their own in the 2nd half and with some super scores came away with a very convincing win. Well done boys. Keep up the savage work in training. Next up Kildare league game away V Carbury on Saturday.

Under 10 boys played Carbury in Kildare League on Saturday afternoon. Another great performance from the lads. Once again the work rate and tackling was immense. Just goes to prove the boys are listening and working so hard in training. Well done lads keep it up. roll on Eire Og game on Monday.

What a super day for the Girls Feile

So proud of the girls today.  They were incredible all day, going unbeaten in every match.

Unfortunately the final just got away from us though the girls never ever gave up. It was so so close.  I know it’s hard to take but they should all hold their heads high.

Days like today doesn't just come together & lots of people made it happen.  Big thanks to our fantastic ladies committee led by Michelle for their support, Trevor for arranging all the pitches and facilities,  our Healty Club Team lead by Lisa who provided all the snacks,  Sinead Johnson for her support (I know how proud she is of her u16 girls)  Big thanks to Lauren Ricker & Sophie O'D for helping today (running the show).  Both were a huge part of last year's team so we were all delighted to have them part of today.

Thanks to all you parents for the great support. We know it was a long day & really appreciate it.

Lastly this amazing bunch of girls who did the club, the coaches and you all proud.

The sun shone for us today & Blessington GAA shone brighter as the perfect hosts and wonderful team.
