Blessington club notes

August 23, 2021

Good Evening everyone. The club was allocated one ticket for each of the All-Ireland finals and the draw took place on Thursday evening up at the pitch. Sports Direct very kindly sponsored the cost of each ticket. The winners were Laura Smith for the Hurling ticket and Will Harrington for the Football ticket. Congratulations to both of our winners and thanks to Trevor, Michelle, Lisa, Kim and Karen for overseeing the draw.

Senior Men palyed Newtown on Saturday evening in the Herbie Hill cup Semi-Final. In what was an excellent scoring match Blessington came away with a very convincing win on a score line of 2-20 to Newtown 0-12. This is a massive boost for the lads for starting their Championship next Saturday against Bray in Aughrim.(TBC). The very best of luck to both the team and management.

Junior A. It took extra time to decide this Division 3 Cup quarter final in Rathnew on Sunday. Hard luck lads to be beaten by a point.

Finale score Rathnew 1-15, Blessington 3-08. Team :Stephen Kitt, Luke O’Brien, Ciaran Mescal,Killian Bailey,Thomas Fisher.Aaron Curran,Ethan Cotter,James Kearns,Sean Mescal,Sean Price (0-1),Jordan McGarr(2-2),Ruairi Finan(0-1),Dan Cooney (0-2),Jordan Nolan(0-1f), Mikey O’Toole(1-1f) Replacemens Stephen Byrne, Daniel Keogh, Robert Richardson.

Minors were away V Rathnew on Monday 16th With what ended up a very depleted squad with only 13 fit players a few lads with injuries had to tog out at last minute due to late unavailability, the lads suffered a big defeat. A game where things started to go Rathnews way early on it was only going to go one way. A game to put behind us very quickly and move on.

On Wednesday the team took a break from training to review videos and stats form previous games and reset for the remainder of the championship. A good evening of game and team talk and some really positive discussions on where we go from here.

Next game is Monday 30 at home against table toppers St Nicks.

Training Monday and Wed 7:30pm and Sunday morning 10am.

Well done to Boys U13 blue v An Tochar who won 5:16 to 3:11 on Wednesday.

A big thank you to TP Bricklaying (Tony Pender) and Sherpa Kids (Roisin & Ruaidhri O’Brien) for generously sponsoring the U11 boys team with their new wind-cheaters. The lads were all delighted with them and they’ve no excuses now for not training in the rain.

U15 Boys

Div 01 squad played An Tochar Friday last away .A very slow start from our lads Gave a Good An tochar a big lead head start when they rattled net twice in first Quarter. But after few Positional changes and quick chat at water break lads came into the Game and played nice football and worked some great scores and at end of third  Quarter were with 3 points following a well worked Goal we got. But in early part of last Quarter we couldn't find the Goal we needed and despite kicking some nice scores the An Tochar team moved ball down field twice and scored two well worked scores and we came away losing 4.13 to 1.11 but final score line didn't reflect work rate following our slow start. And all 19 lads played there part in entertaining game.

Div 03 game due to be played this Wednesday is being rescheduled TBC still.

U14 Player Pathway squad are at home Sunday 29th to Shillelagh/Coolboy in Round 3.

Training Wednesday and want big attendance with no Games fixed for us or l

Our U12 girls blue team played an impressive game away to Baltinglass this evening. It was a well fought match with lots of improvement in play. Baltinglass won but our girls played really well. Player of the match went to Kate Hill with some strong performances from Grace Behan, Abby McCarthy and Layla McGrath. It was great to have some strong contribution from some our white team players too-Hannah Keogh, Lily Keogh and Megan Mulhall. Well done girls

U12 girls white team played St. Pats this morning in a very strongly contested match. St. Pats won 1-4 to 0-2. The last time these teams met Pats were too strong and beat blessington by a large score, but today they didn't have it all their own way. Blessington controlled the game for long periods of play and had 4 goal chances saved by the post. All the girls played well, in particular in the second half, where they pushed it to another level. Player of the match goes to Hannah Keogh who was brilliant in full back.

There are still a few club logo facemasks and snoods available to buy. Contact Lisa or Michelle.

Our  lotto jackpot will be €3,200 and the draw will take place on 24th August. Thank you everyone for your continuing support.
