Blessington club notes

August 16, 2021

Good evening everyone. Well, what can I say! Noreen has being doing these notes for years up until last Christmas and she has always been gracious in defeat of her beloved Mayo, so thankfully she’s not doing them now otherwise the font and background would be green & red.! But all joking aside well done to the better team on the day. Dublin has kept the rest of us entertained for the last 7 years with exceptional football. So for all the Mayo & non Dublin supporters enjoy the celebrations (responsibly). Very well deserved.

The club wish to thank Sports Direct who is our main sponsor for supplying all our underage teams with goodie bags on Saturday. Along with the bags there were gum shields, first touch footballs and the Healthy Club Team came on board and provided everyone including the visiting teams with a healthy treat bag. Well done to everyone who helped out on the day.

Senior Men travelled to Baltinglass on Sunday morning for their league match. The lads started off really well but a stronger Baltinglass came out in the second half to take the win. Final score Baltinglass 0-12 Blessington 1-05.

Next match is the championship in Aughrim against Bray on Saturday 28th at 6pm.

Junior A had a busy week with both a home and away match. Tuesday they faced Aughrim in a thrilling match but were just pipped at the post with a win for Aughrim. Final score 1-12 to Blesso 1-11. Then on Friday the lads went up the road to Hollywood and had a very impressive win. Final score Blesso 3-11 Hollywood 1-09.

Minors

U17’s have were at home V Bray on Friday 13th with the injury list getting bigger and lads away on holidays the U15s stepped up again to help and didn’t disappoint. It was a shaky start, Bray got 2 early goals to put it 2:05 to 0:05 at the 1st water break, By half time the gap had narrowed to 4 points on 0:09 to 2:07 with Adam Williamson, Killian O’Connell and Jack Byrne keeping the lads in the game with some fine saves and Block-downs. The lads settled in the 2nd half. Max Silk Featherstone’s goal and Sam Goughs free taking brought it all square at 1:12 to 2:09 on the 2nd water break. The last 15 min was end to end, Blessington got a penalty but a good save by the Bray keeper kept Bray in the game. Both teams exchanged points and wides but form somewhere the Blessington lads dug deep to come away with a 1 point win on 1:17 to 2:13.
