Blessington club notes

July 12, 2021

Good evening everyone on this wet miserable Sunday, hopefully the weather will improve for our Kellog’s Cul camp which starts tomorrow, Blessington Monday at 10.00am until 2.00pm. For a smooth registration on Monday morning, please read carefully the following guidelines.

Parents must complete a return to play health questionnaire if they have not done so already. You must add the Blessington Cúl Camp to your profile. This can be done now.  Then each morning of the camp you must RECONFIRM IN THE ONLINE LINK THAT THERE HAS BEEN NO CHANGE TO THE HEALTH QUESTIONNAIRE in order for your child to gain access to the camp. This can all be done in the link below. https://returntoplay.gaa.ie/

To add Blessington Cúl Camp please

1) Go to your profile

2) Scroll down to Your Clubs and click add another Club

3) In Dropbox under Association select Cúl Camps

4) In Dropbox under County Board select Wicklow

5) in Dropbox under Club Search select Blessington.

And to add to this we really hope that the children have a super week. Don’t forget to dress accordingly, Sun cream, hats, raincoats or wellies!

Final Update

The final count is in and the total amount raised from this amazing fundraiser is €32,362.81

Last Tuesday night the organising committee handed over a cheque worth 50% of the total amount raised to Nina from Féileacáin (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Association of Ireland).

Thanks to everybody who made donations and supported this event. We have been absolutely blown away by the support. Thanks also to  Phyllis and Barry Hamilton for all the photographs that were taken on the day that were in the previous week’s Wicklow People Newspaper edition. It is very much appreciated.

Football News

Blessington Senior team travelled over to Avondale today for their 3rd League match and unfortunately suffered their first defeat of the campaign

On a wet morning which made conditions very hard to play flowing football, the lads gave it everything but it just wasn’t to be our day.

At the end of a first half which could have gone either way, we were only 1 point down.

Blessington played some great football in the second half and were level at one stage but unfortunately were caught out in a counter attack for a goal and from then on, we were chasing the game.

Final score Avondale 2-8 Blesso 0-9

Junior A travelled to Tinahealy on Friday evening for their league match but unfortunately were beaten on a score line of 1-11 to 10 points. Hard luck lads.

Junior C was away to Valleymount on Thursday 8th July and had a very convincing win. Final score Vallymount 1-09 Blessington 0-19

Minors1st Round of Championship away V Baltinglass on Monday 11th away to Baltinglass at 7pm

Training Wednesday 7:30pm and Sunday 10am.

Thanks to Adam Smith for helping with Academy on Saturday morning, Great to see some of the lads Austin, James, Ethan, Killian and Dylan coaching at Cul Camps in Baltinglass and Valleymount and again this week in Blessington.

Congrats to Austin Brennan, Sam Gough and Adam Williamson on their win with the county hurlers on Saturday 10th.

Lads were away V Rathnew on Monday the 5th in the last of the PPL league with a lot of lads unavailable due to county hurling, injury and  holidays 6 of the U15 lads Aaron Keogh, Jack Byrne, Padraic Quinn, Ben Carroll, Tony Carroll and Leon Templin came to boost the squad. The last of the PPL league gave a good chance to give all the lads some meaningfull game time. A good game of football played in good sporting spirit. Blessington had their chances but didn’t take them it was a tight game up to the last water break, 2 late goals from Rathnew gave Rathnew a good win. Lots to work on particularly shooting and work-rate off the ball. A good game just before Championship

Under 9’s

U9 go games didn’t go ahead this weekend as Tinahely couldn’t field a team.

Currently training going ahead Monday at the usual time. Keep an eye on the texts.

Next game planned is Leixlip away on the 17th July.

U9 NKL had a big win over Confey.

We dominated from the get go and great to see players really taking on board everything from training. Keep up the great work. See you all Monday usual time. Next game currently the 24th July.

Well done to the under 7s who travelled to Tinahely this morning for the go games. They all played fantastic, great to see them progressing week after week. The future is bright for Blessington. Thanks to all the parents for travelling.

Ladies

Score line aside, our junior ladies had a much more polished performance than last week. Huge improvement and we couldn’t have asked for more from everyone. Super second half in particular. Unfortunately we came up short in attack again but it certainly wasn’t from a lack of trying. It was a great game and we can certainly keep the heads high after it. Onwards and upwards for sure.

Our left side defence duo of Hannah and Niamh E put in some shift and worked unbelievable together the whole game and deservedly share POTM great stuff girls we keep going and look forward to the coming games

Result Clan Na Gael 5-7 Blesso 1-5

Scorers:

Sharon Kelly 1-1Sarah Murphy 0-2 Moya Richardson 0-1,Lisa Mullaly 0-1

*Next up Bray at home Sunday 25th 11:30am

4 wins from 4 for our U16 Blue team with another strong performance at home vs AGB Thursday night.

Super performance from the Under 14 girls Blue team against St Pats out in Wicklow Town on Saturday evening. Under very warm conditions the girls were immense. Passing, scoring, defending. We couldn't fault them. Came away with a super win, the girls are flying. Very hard to pick POTM as all were brilliant but has to go to Georgia Mae for her tireless efforts in the whole game. Well done girls we are all super proud coaches this week with all the girls.

Under 14 girls White team travelled to AGB Thursday evening. Thought it was going to be a shaky start with the ref not showing but by god the girls were on fire tonight. Pure grit and sheer determination got them through and they came away with a win, 1-4 to 3-5. It was brilliant to see. The best White team match to date. A Savage team effort from all 21 of the girls. All 21 of them cuda got POTM but we have to give it to Willow and Lauren Mckeever. Unreal. Keep up all the hard work girls. Fair play to parents for travelling. No one got lost, a pure bonus. Yeehaaw

Another tough match for our u12 white team tonight against a strong Baltinglass team but the girls never gave up and contested every ball in the second half right to the final whistle. These girls have a great attitude for the game even when they are behind on the scoreboard they keep trying. Special mention to Megan Mulhall, Holly Cassidy, Erin Long & Caitlin Reddy who played their socks off.

Thanks so much to Kim Connors for doing a super job on our graphics for all of our matches.

Leinster U20 Football Championship. Wicklow were away to Dublin in what was a terrific match in Parnell Park. All credit to both teams thay played a brilliant fair game of football. Hard luck to the Wicklow side that were beaten on a score line of 1-12 to 1-08. You should be all very proud of yourselves, you played fantastic. Special mention to our own club players Kevin Quinn, Craig Maguire, Jack Sargent (GK) & Daniel Cooney.

Wicklow Minor Hurling - Celtic Challenge

Well done to the Wicklow minor hurlers who yesterday qualified for the final of the Celtic Challenge Michael Hogan Cup. Great to see such a strong representation from West Wicklow with 10 Western Gaels players part of the squad including 4 from Blessington. Good to see Sam Gough Adam Williamson and Austin Brennan all playing a big part in an emphatic win over Sligo on a score line of 6-19 to 2-13 with Adam saving a penalty in the second half. Conor Richardson would no doubt be involved also yesterday if it was not for injury. They will now play Derry on Sat week in the final.

Academy runs every Saturday morning from 10am to 11 am. Last week as part of the Healthy Club initiative we reintroduced our fruit for the children, this has always been very popular by both the parents and the children.

All Stars had another great morning of fun and games. This morning we welcomed 2 new children to our group. Keep an eye on our social media pages for any updates on our very popular group.
