Blessington GAA Club Notes 25 October 2020

More Covid restrictions in place. All adult training has been suspended until 1 December 2020. Juvenile training from U17 downwards can take place.

Wicklow County Teams - Well done to Wicklow football and hurlers and the Wicklow ladies who all enjoyed victories this weekend. The men's football team now look forward to Div 3 football. Congrats to team and management.

Congratulations - What a birthday present for Senior player Erin King. Erin was selected as a “Player of National Interest” and been given permission by the IRFU to play Senior Women’s Rugby and be part of the Ireland 7s Senior Women’s training squad. Erin is only the third ever U18 player to be selected at adult level. What an achievement. Wishing you every success!

Ladies - An incredible statistic from our 2020 season. While we highly commend all our ladies this year as all we achieved was TEAM work, we couldn’t let the moment pass without acknowledging our

Ladies Championship 3 Top Scorers with astonishing personal tallies that some teams wouldn’t even rack up in a competition!! Massive well done to our three girls: Sadhbh Fisher 11-46 (79). Robyn Brennan 16-31 (79). Aisling Brennan 17-21 (72). Class stuff girls.

Academy – 31 children attended the academy on Sat 24 Oct. The coaches would like to thank you to Sadhbh Fisher, Niamh Cullen, Anna Vas, Sara Bohan, David Boothman and Patrick O’Connor who helped out on the day. Without this extra help, it would be quite difficult to continue due to Covid restrictions.

Healthy Clubs – Another fantastic Sunday morning from our inclusion session. The HCP would like to thank all the volunteers who turned up to help this morning. There’s too many to mention, It was great to see so many of our juveniles getting involved. Also, thanks to our coaches who gave up their time to come along and see the brilliant work been done with these amazing bunch of children.

Walk Des Home Fundraiser - From Michelle Richardson – And I'm done. 5hr 23mins of running and it was well worth it. Thanks to everyone for the support, it means so much. Eoin Phibbs, thanks for the company on the greenway stretch. Ben Reid for taking pics and to all me pals who supported along the way. Michelle ran the marathon to raise awareness and funds for the “Walk Des Home” fundraiser.

Following a bike accident in a cycle lane in Dublin City on 8 Jan 20, Even his helmet did not save him from a crushing blow to the skull against a cycle bollard. Life was never to be the same for Des and his family. Des through no fault of his own was thrown into darkness, lying in a coma in Beaumont  Hospital, it was touch and go. Half of his skull was removed by life-saving surgery…the will-to-live now lay within. Grief stricken, for Tara his wife there was no sign of life. When Des’s eyes eventually opened, that was all that he could move.  The only alternative option for Des at the moment is long-term hospitalisation or nursing home care where his family will not be allowed to visit. Undeterred by prohibitive costs of caring for Des at home. This is an urgent appeal as Des is due for discharge from the NRH on the 6th Nov. If anyone would like to sponsor in anyway, please donate on the GOFUNDME page. Ger and Ruth and all the Vallely family are known to us all in Blesso and it would be great to help in any way we can however big or small. We are all community. Thanks so much.  https://ie.gofundme.com/f/walk-des-home-vallely-family-appeal
