freddy2, I agree its good that clubs lose home league games if no referee.

It is always good to see ex players as refs, they know the game better than non players.

Paraic Byrne from Kilanerin and P Owley are always consistent and definitely worth a mention.

Thought he had a good game! The sending off is a tough one, both were probably bookings by the letter of the law, but in my opinion:

1. very unlucky to get booked so early, will usually get away with these challenges in opening few mins
2. After a harsh 1st yellow, he could have given a warning for the 2nd
3. Liam Rushe was v lucky that Dublin already had a player sent off or he would have seen the line

Imagine J Ownes will get a grilling for the 3rd point and don't see him getting an AI! Still, let the game flow, and played his part in a great game!

Had a very poor game I thought. Got both yellows for O'Dwyer wrong in my opinion, got Rushe sending off wrong. And what disappointed me most was that he played advantage a lot of times where there was no advantage- if a player is fouled in front of goal 50 metres out, where is the advantage in letting him play on only to be hooked and dispossessed? A free is a far bigger advantage in that situation, especially to someone like Pat Horgan. Owens got the big decisions wrong and otherwise put his whistle away for the afternoon. Poor.

Thought he had a right game, not fussy for the most part and he did get the sending of and rushe incidents wrong but that wouldnt bother me. The game would never have been as good if he hadnt let it flow and thats how all players want it played. the less stopages the more momentum there is and everyone gets into the game. he facilitated a cracker lads and thats what i think is something refs need to be encouraged to do.

Hurler101 He should have called more frees. So what if the game was nice to watch. time and again he played advantage when there was none.

More times he played it that led to an advantage. He is not to know the next player to get the ball will mess up. What do you mean so what if it was good to look at? this is why we follow the game, its a form of entertainment!!!!!

How come players are never at fault when they get sent off? Anyone ever hear of personal responsibility? Do players not know that you'll get sent off if you get two yellows? Surely when you're on a yellow you need to be careful. Doesn't he have previous?

The only massive error he made is not sending off Liam Rushe. Otherwise, he did a good job.

I wouldnt bring his previous into it to be fair. He's all action, and not very calculated in his approach to tackling. He is of course responsible for his tackles and once he gets the yellow and he wasnt, he still charged in awkwardly. He can feel hard done by but I wouldnt say he was wronged! I think if you looked at both games yesterday and compared the referees, James Owens was by far the best. I know if I was playing or involved in a team I'd be happy to have my game refereed as he did yesterday. There will always be incidents and talking points but the ref is always an easy taerget. People dont say much about missed frees, or how dublin played into corks hands by not playing the sweeper for the first game all year!!

what did ye think of brendan martins performance at the weekend. i wasnt at the match so i cant really comment but 6 straight reds in a game where both teams were already through

Brendan Martin was excellent at the weekend, was left with no option but to issue 5 straight reds and 1 on a second yellow. Both teams display typical traits from lower grades of hurling. No discipline in tacking or restraint in use of the hurl in the contact area.

How both team managers view that from a position where both teams have qualified is beyond me, absolute foolishiness

Who was playing who in the game with 6 red cards? Always found him poor to be honest, cant keep up with the play and then has to make big calls for the centre of the pitch, fitness is definately an issue with some refs in the county,is there any kind of standards they must adhere to?

6............That's a lot! Could really hinder those teams chances of progressing!
