Mullingar Shamrocks GAA Notes

No Leinster Final Joy in Kells

There were no Scór Leinster titles for Mullingar Shamrocks in Kells on Saturday afternoon.

Our Tráth na gCeist and Roince Foirne teams were out of luck. The Tráth na gCeist team of Tom Hunt, Davy Gavin and Conor and Ritchie McKenna were well beaten by the All-Ireland champions Edenderry and finished in third place. However this team has already qualified for the All-Ireland finals in Castlebar and have an opportunity of winning the title via the back door route. An outside manager might be needed and some consideration given to early morning training.

The sacrifices Conor McKenna made to compete in the Leinster finals should be acknowledged. Last week, Conor flew home from Spain a few days earlier to compete in Portlaoise and for Saturday afternoon's final he again interrupted his holiday and made the long journey from Derry to take the stage in Kells.

The Roince Foirne troupe danced superbly but the judges’ verdict favoured the  dancers from Birr. Zoe Collins, Rachel Cornally, Maura Buckley, Sile-Marie Martin, Mary Jo Geraghty, Úna Fagan, Kim Darby and Shannon Daly have been superb ambassadors for Mullingar Shamrocks over the years as have their coaches Mary Cornally and Patsy Rylands. Any mention of retirement was firmly rejected by Mrs Scór herself, the great Detty.

G4MO end their season in style

The Shamrocks G4MO team ended their season with a fantastic blitz hosted by Na Fianna (Enfield) G4MO team.

The day started great, a mass warm up of the four teams, Na Fianna, Walterstown and Leixlip, and approximately 55 ladies ... all up for great fun!! The first team Shamrocks played were the hosts, Na Fianna followed by Walterstown and finally Leixlip.

There were great displays of skills from the Shamrocks players, who only came together on the pitch in February. Although all the 4 teams played  each other, support came from all players on the pitch, congratulating every point, goal and wonderful plays. This made for a wonderful atmosphere.

All the fun and games were followed by sandwiches, cakes, soup, tea and coffee, provided by Na Fianna. It was a fantastic and extremely enjoyable occasion thanks so much to all the teams, Leixlip, Walterstown and especially the hosts, Na Fianna.

Special mention to Shamrocks team membres, Cat, Avril (both returned from injury and both played superbly), Nina, Ilana, Ilze, Kacie and Karen.

A big thanks to our own G4MO player (who unfortunately was unable to play), Lisa, who supported and coached us from the side line.

The G4MO Shamrocks team will continue to train in the winter. We have a gym session on Tuesday from 8-9 and Pilates on Fridays, 8.20-9.20.

If any women are interested in joining the team, please come along one or the other of the sessions or both. No need to worry about fitness, we are just out for chats and a giggle.

Under-12s also end their season

Our Under-12 girls ended their season with a trip to the St Finbar's Club in Cabra accompanied by their coaches. Thanks to the St Finbar's Club for hosting the memorable visit for the girls which concluded an enjoyable year of football.
