Mullingar Shamrocks GAA Notes

June 20, 2022

Official Opening with Conor and Ross

The advice is come early next Friday evening and avoid the rush for our Official Opening ceremonies with Conor Moore and Ross Corroon.

After all it is not everyday we have an entertainer who sold out Vicar Street in a few hours and cracked the American circuit like few other Irish entertainers managed, to honour the occasion.

Conor Moore comes back to where it all began to cut the ribbon and no doubt Ger Loughnane and Davy Fitz and Joe Brolly will cast a cold eye over the remainder of the championship and maybe even the golfing men who took the Saudi shilling might drop in.

It promises to be a great occasion with rising star Ross Corroon also entertaining. The word on the street is that the next singing star to emerge from Mullingar will be Ross who is getting rave reviews on his return to the music circuit after the Covid interruption.

It all starts at 8.00 on Friday next 24 June.

Cumann na mBunscoil

Congrats to all our players and coaches who were involved in the Cumann na mBunscoil finals last week. The many successes enjoyed by our players is a great indication of the health and wellbeing of our under age structures at the present time.

Junior Football ‘B’ Competition: Mullingar Shamrocks 2-15 Kilbeggan Shamrocks 1-16.

Our Junior ‘B’ team had a great win against Kilbeggan in the Junior B competition on Tuesday evening. It was good to see Davy Coyne make a comeback after a long spell on the sideline following his second cruciate injury.

Mullingar Shamrocks: Mikey Curley; Eamonn Breslin, Matthew Siode; Ciaran Kiernan, Emmet Walsh, Jack Kelly (0-1); Brian Farrell (0-2), Niall Hannigan (0-2); Zach Aherne (0-5), Simon Quinn (1-0), Marc Eivers (0-3); Brian Melody, Sean Hynes, Paddy Joyce (1-1). Replacements: Adam Boyle, Mark Shaw, Davy Coyne and Conor Fitzpatrick.

Blitzes Galore

Well done to all the boys who played in the various blitzes Saturday morning: the Under-7s in Springfield v St Loman's; the Under-8s in Ballynacargy; the Under-9s in Springfield and the Under-11s in Kinnegad v Coralstown-Kinnegad. Great array of skills and teamwork on display and everyone gave their all right up to the final whistle in all games. Great to see 34 boys turning up for an away blitz so big thanks again to all the parents for making the trip and supporting. Well done again to the Under-9s. We had 30 players representing Shamrocks against very competitive Kinnegad sides in Springfield. It was great to see the improvement in skill level, tacking and passing as we near the mid-point of our season.

ACL Div.5: Mullingar Shamrocks 1-13 Killucan 5-7

Mullingar Shamrocks completed their ACL Div.5 programme tonight in Killucan losing out to the locals by 0-6 after a decent game. We trailed by 3-3 to 0-6 at half-time with James Staunton (2-0) and Paddy Kelly getting the big scores for Killucan. The ageless Gary Corroon was responsible for the bulk of the Mullingar Shamrocks scores. Jason Gorman’s goal early in the second half secured the points (and the place in the ACL Div.5) for Killucan with Luke Darby adding a fifth in the closing stages. Shamrocks continued the battle to the end and Niall Hannigan was rewarded for his work rate and mobility with a goal that proved to be the last score of the match. The main feature of this match from a Shamrocks perspective was the outstanding goalkeeping of Mikey Curley with several brilliant stops on the night that the team’s three managers, Robbie Boyle, Ritchie Daly and Gary Corroon became player managers.

Mullingar Shamrocks: Mikey Curley’ Ritchie Daly, Matthew Siode, Ben Egan; Ciaran Looby, Niall Hardiman, Aaron Russell; Niall Hannigan (1-1), Andrew Shaw (0-3); Matthew Clinton (0-1), Gary Corroon (0-7), Kevin Reid (0-1); Adam Boyle, Robbie Boyle, Seán Hynes.
