St. Malachys club notes

September 20, 2021

IFC

On Sunday evening last we played Castledaly in fourth round of the Intermediate Football Championship in Tang. The first half opened with a 45 taken and scored by Morgan Gavigan and points from Alan Mangan, Niall O’Brien, Conor Murphy and Neal Kirby still left us 0-06 to 0-04 at the first water break. With this changing the flow of the game, the second quarter gave Castledaly the edge whereby at half time, we were 10 points behind, 2-10 to 0-06.

The second half brought about a change in spirit in the Malachys players as the team managed to keep Castledaly’s scoring rally at bay. By the second water break, it was 2-12 to 0-10. However, alike the first half, the water break changed the tempo of the game leaving St. Malachys on the back foot for the remainder of the match. The game finished up 2-15 to 0-14.

One night focuses on functional movement/ circuits/ flexibility and the second night walking football/olympic handball/walking (more of a fun element). The programme is suitable for beginners as the aim is to get Men back into physical activity with a strong emphasis on social interaction among peers. In previous groups Men ranged from 30-70 years. Some might just come and do what their able at their pace but enjoy the interaction and chat of the group. Once we meet the group, sessions can be tailored to suit what the group like.
