U13 Championship Semi Final:

Our brave band of boys bowed out of Championship in this rescheduled semi final thriller against a strong Killucan side.

Played in fine conditions this was what can only be described as a game of two halves.

Cill Oige started the game really strongly and took the game to the home side.

Evan Turley, Jacob Bourke and Josh Duffy took control at midfield and pinned Killucan back in their own half for the first quarter.

The inside forwards benefitted from this control with Darragh Bradley, Charlie Dolan and Oscar Casey linking the play with great skill. Jamie Shortall and Darragh Deegan pressed home Cill Oige's advantage with a goal and a point each.

Killucan fought bravely and rallied well in the second quarter but were well marshalled by Michael Loddick, Dara Fox and Matthew Marsh in the full back line.

Half backs Alex Mullen Adamson and Eoin Higgins took the opportunity to push forward and assist their forward line, while Darragh Deegan kicked some excellent points to send Cill Oige into the half time break six points up.

Tiernan Farrell, Finnian Turley and Maxi Clevett entered the fray at the start of the second half and it started brightly but unfortunately Cill Oige could not take advantage of some early possession.

Killucan pushed forward and slowly but steadily chipped away at the Cill Oige lead.

A fine save from Fionn Higgins underlined his excellent all round performance, but  the tide was turning despite the fantastic efforts of Philip Finnan at centre half back .

Killucan took the lead with minutes remaining

while a valiant Cill Oige team battled to the final whistle but could not close the gap.

This team can hold their heads high for providing a year of excitement and hope and entertainment.  With their gutsy determination and teamwork they will battle back to win on another day.

The very best of luck to all Cill Oige teams who have qualified for county finals in the coming weeks.
