Kilbeggan Shamrocks GAA Notes

August 01, 2021

IFC v Tubberclair

All roads lead to Mount Temple this Saturday evening for our IFC Section B opener against Tubberclair (throw-in 6.30pm).

A good start to the championship is imperative, but it won’t be easy against opponents who are on the up again after winning the JFC last year. Due to current restrictions, all games outside Cusack Park are restricted to 200 spectators and will be played as "single-headers". Each club will receive 40 complimentary tickets for players and team officials which must be presented at the ground for entry.

JFC ‘B’ v St Mary’s

St Mary's ran out comfortable winners of last Tuesday night’s JFC 'B' game in Rochfortbridge. We still have one round left to play in this championship which has given valuable game-time to many of our young players.

Team: Brendan McMahon; Senan Claffey, Dylan Maloney, Eoin Dixon; Martin Ward, Keith Corcoran, Michael Carton; Darragh Coffey, Cathal Maher; Tommy Finnegan, Mark Sonner, Brian Egan; Danny Scully, Sean Maher, James Finnegan. Subs: Micheál Coffey, Ryan Coughlan, Stephen Carroll, Conor Carroll, Micheál Baker, Michael Joyce.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Mike Tormey on his appointment as Tullamore RFC captain. Mike was a great servant to our club before transferring to his adopted Cappincur a few years ago.

We also congratulate another former Kilbeggan player, the evergreen Aidan Gorry, on winning a JFC 2 medal with Coralstown/Kinnegad last Saturday at the age of 45, and Padraig Hampsey on captaining Tyrone to Ulster SFC glory in Croke Park, also last Saturday. The All-Star defender is a nephew of Annie Nannery, wife of Kilbeggan legend Martin ‘Butcher’ Nannery, while his father, Padraig Snr, worked in Powerscreen’s Kilbeggan plant many years ago.

We are also very proud of our minor goalkeeper Conor Mullins who won the U16 National Matchplay Pitch & Putt Championship last Sunday week.

Sympathy

The club extends its sympathy to the O'Neill family, Skehanagh on the passing of Geraldine last week. Predeceased by her husband Ollie and son Joseph, Geraldine is survived by her sons Kevin, Andrew and Oliver, and daughters Linda, Olive and Dawn, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, sister, brothers and extended family.

The O'Neill family have had a long association with Kilbeggan GAA which continues to this day. RIP Geraldine.

Lotto

Last week’s lucky numbers were 1, 4, 17 and 20. Congratulations to the two Match 3 winners, Mary Egan, Kilbeggan and Joe Whelan, Moate.

Thanks to everyone for their support. This week’s jackpot is €4,450. The draw takes place every Tuesday at 9pm live on our Facebook page. You can purchase your tickets in local shops or online https://www.klubfunder.com/Clubs/Kilbeggan_Shamrocks
