GAA Rounders Championship
We travelled to Collinstown, Dublin to take on Na Fianna in the second round of the Intermediate Championship last Friday evening. Na Fianna batted first and led 9-7 after the first innings. Ballinagore took the lead in the second and led 13-11 before a stalemate was achieved at the end of the third, 13-13. Na Fianna regained the lead by the minimum margin in the fourth innings before extending the gap at the top of the fifth to four runs, 21-17.
Ballinagore stepped up for their last batting knowing that a second loss would leave them little chance of reaching the semi-finals. First to bat was the captain Aisling Heraty and she got herself to first base before David Langan hit the shot of the match to get both himself and Aisling home with his first Home Run of the season. This left us with three runs to get and Shane Heraty, Martin Furey and Dympna Claffey loaded the bases before Declan Claffey and Peter Heraty did enough to get them home and seal the victory on a scoreline of Ballinagore 22, Na Fianna 21.
Apart from the Home Run David Langan had an excellent performance in the outfield getting three batters out but man of the match must go to 'mister consistency' Declan Claffey whose pitching was excellent. We welcome two new members Jo Fox and Peter Heraty who accounted themselves very well on the night. Training continues on Thursdays at 8pm and new members are always welcome.
Team: Declan Claffey (Pitcher, 3 Runs), Shane Heraty (Catcher, 4 Runs), Martin Furey (Short Stop, 3 Runs), Peter Heraty (1st Base, 1 Run), Aisling Heraty capt. (2nd Base, 3 Runs), Dympna Claffey (3rd Base, 2 Runs), Jo Fox (Left Outfield, 1 Run), David Langan (Centre Outfield, 4 Runs,), Eimear Fox (Right Outfield, 1 Run).
U13 Football Championship Round 2
Lilliput Gaels entertained Garrycastle in Round 2 on Wednesday 14th July. On another glorious evening, all in attendance were treated to a high scoring encounter, with both teams having periods of dominance.
Lilliput took the game to their opponent’s right from the off and led at the first water break. However following the short break, Garrycastle came out much stronger to completely dominate this quarter and built up a 5 point lead at the break.
The introduction of some fresh legs for the second half saw the home team seize control of the game again, to move back in front at the second water break. The last quarter was end to end and every time Garrycastle registered a score, Lilliput were able to match that at the other end.
The final whistle saw Lilliput prevail on a score line of 7-17 to 7-08. Well done to both teams on serving up such an entertaining game.

The Downs 5.07 Lilliput Gaels 2.07
We came up second best against a skillfull The Downs side in Ballinagore on Friday evening. We struggled to play with any fluency and that final pass seemed to let us down when a goal scoring opportunity was on. To our lads credit we kept playing until the final whistle and we will no doubt learn from this defeat. We play our final group game against Kinnegad in two weeks time. Team: Aaron Jackson, Shane Maloney, Christian Dowling. Shane King, David Costello, Adam Clarke, David O’Malley, Eoin Robinson, Philip Reynolds. Sean Bolger, Morgan Redmond, Dylan Corrigan, Patrick Maloney, Adam Cassidy, Jack Maloney. Subs: Conor Maloney, Eoin Carey , Rory Quinn , Lennon Swan , Cian Corcoran, Luke Robinson.
U17 Football Championship
Hard luck to our U17 footballers who lost out to a strong Coralstown/Kinnegad side last Monday evening in Ballinagore. Despite being down a number of players our lads put in a very spirited and energetic display throughout. The final score was 6-14 to 3-08 in favour of our visitors.
