Garrycastle GAA Notes Mar 7th.
Annual General Meeting
The AGM deferred from December was held on Friday last. Secretary Harry Mooney gave a very comprehensive report of the year s activities which included getting football for our players in spite of the pandemic, championship victories for the Senior B ladies and under 16 girls, getting drainage of the pitch done, completing two new dressing rooms, getting lighting of training area under way and much more. He encouraged anyone with ideas or suggestions or who knows of anyone else interested in getting involved at any level to contact a club committee member. He thanked everyone who played any part in keeping all the club's activities going. Finally he extended sincere sympathies to all club members who suffered bereavements during the past year.
In his treasurer s report, John Ruane gave a detailed account of the club's finances. In spite of all the difficulties caused by the pandemic which curtailed fundraising the club had a small margin of income over expenditure. The club lotto has been the main source of income and the treasurer is happy that club indebtedness is very manageable.
Chairman Michael Mannion thanked members and sponsors who helped in any way in keeping the club running. He referred to the great community effort, Timpeall na Tire, which was a fundraising venture to support local charities, organised by two senior players. He reminded members that this year is the 40th anniversary of the club's founding and paid tribute to all the people who helped it progress over the years. He also reminded members that we are heading into our 4th Year as One Club, which makes us even stronger as a unit going forward. He felt that moving to One Club has been hugely positive. Finally he urged members to come along and get involved in club activities or to bring any new ideas they may have for developing our committees to come forward with them.
Motions, discussed and passed at the meeting, will see committees set up to review and update the constitution and to look at ways that monthly meetings can be streamlined. Another issue agreed by the meeting was to set up a group to look at possible future club development.
