Laois returned to the top of the Division 4 table tonight thanks to a comfortable 2-13 to 1-5 victory over Waterford at O’Moore Park.

Eoin Lowry’s goal saw the home side into a 1-3 to 0-1 advantage by the 22nd minute prior to Waterford hitting back with a goal of their own via Jason Curry (penalty).

It meant the winless visitors only trailed by three (1-6 to 1-3) at the interval but Laois, who slipped to a surprise defeat to Wicklow last weekend, would make the perfect restart that saw Lowry hammering in his second goal in a move which came from the throw-in.

Mark Barry’s frees and couple more points from Lowry, who finished with 2-6, saw the margin between the team stretch to 11 points before Paul Kingston’s late brace piled on more misery for the Deise men.

The win sees Laois sit top of the pile in Division 4 of the Allianz Football League, with fellow promotion chasers Wicklow and Leitrim squaring off tomorrow afternoon in Aughrim (throw-in 1.30pm).
