The Nire made it back-to-back Waterford senior football championship titles in their history this afternoon by seeing off Rathgormack on a 0-10 to 0-8 scoreline at Walsh Park.
County hurling stars Conor Gleeson and Jamie Barron were instrumental for the victors who produced the second-half goods after going in at the break all square on 0-5 apiece.
Gleeson kicked a superb point at the start of the second-half and tapped over a free two minutes later and, when he left the field with a dislocated shoulder in the 58th minute, the game would still be in the balance.
Jason Gleeson came off the bench to fire over a point for Rathgormack that had the deficit down to one, but Barron put Aaron Ryan through for the next score that ended up ensuring the holders’ triumph.
