Personal scoring tallies don’t come much better than this one…
It was very much ‘The Maurice Shanahan Show’ in Dungarvan this evening as Lismore opened their 2021 Waterford senior hurling championship campaign with an emphatic 5-19 to 1-19 victory over Tallow.
Shanahan struck a remarkable 4-13 over the hour at Fraher Field, where he netted his first goal nine minutes in from the penalty spot.
Seven minutes later and Lismore were down to 14 men after John Prendergast was sent off on a straight red but it didn’t see to disrupt their rhythm as Shanahan added another goal before half-time, leaving it at 2-7 to 0-11 for the interval.
Shanahan, who saw his brother Dan introduced as second-half substitute, even saw a penalty saved in the derby before adding two more majors in the closing quarter that secured an opening win for Lismore, as they go in search of their first senior championship title since 1993 this autumn.
