Mayo have become the fourth county to declare their intention to vote against Proposal B at Special Congress.

This morning, Mayo county board confirmed that the county’s clubs had mandated their delegates to vote against Motion 18 (the eight-team provincial championship) and Motion 19 (Proposal B - the league based championship) at tomorrow’s Special Congress.

It sees them join Fermanagh, Armagh and Galway in announcing their opposition to the proposal which favours a league-based championship.

On the flip side, there have been 13 counties which have come out in favour of the proposal: Down, Wexford, Westmeath, Kildare, Offaly, Meath, Louth, Roscommon, Leitrim, Sligo, Cork, Tipperary and Clare.

GAA president Larry McCarthy is also backing the motion, along with the GPA, while Ulster Council chief Brian McAvoy has been one of the loudest voices to oppose the adoption of Proposal B.
