Gardaí are investigating the theft of 80 footballs from the Donegal GAA Centre of Excellence.
The footballs taken from a storeroom at the Convoy facility are collectively worth €5,000. But it’s believed they have no resale value because the letters ‘DL’ are indelibly marked on them. Nevertheless, Donegal GAA is appealing to the public for assistance in finding the missing items.
“They were stolen from one of a number of storerooms we have at the centre and it is quite clear that whoever did it, their sole intent was on the footballs,” county board chairperson Mary Coughlan told Donegal Live.
“There was other gear in the storeroom, but all that was taken were the footballs.
“The footballs were mainly used by the underage academies, U20 football team and some seniors. The balls were in those large mesh carrier bags and whoever took them would have needed a van or a large vehicle to carry.”
The theft has prompted Donegal GAA to increase security at the training facility.
