All-Ireland winning Tipperary manager Liam Cahill never doubted the quality of his players.
There were question marks around Tipp going into this season after an underwhelming 2024 championship but the Premier County have silenced all their critics by storming to Liam MacCarthy Cup glory with a devastating second-half demolition of Cork in the final at Croke Park today:
“A big shout out to my mam and dad at home,” commented Cahill straight after the final whistle. “My mother probably has the rosary beads swallowed at this stage and my father probably has the cows milked three times with nervousness but I’m just so thrilled for everybody, supporters, the whole shebang.
“The whole collective of everybody, not just me, everybody from County Board, the people in the supporters’ club, and various teams behind the setup that support us to allow us to create a high performance environment have just been superb.
“The honesty of that group of players – I never doubted them. I know we were all a little bit sensitive after last year with what happened, and some of the criticism was probably deserved at times, but I knew the quality of these men and, once we got in among them, supported them better, and got them believing again, that we’d have a great opportunity of lifting the spirits of the Tipperary people. And they came here in their thousands today, I’m just so happy.”
