Billy Drennan starred in his Allianz League debut to help Kilkenny see off Antrim by 1-18 to 0-15 at Corrigan Park for two early points in Division 1 Group B.

The star of last year’s All-Ireland U20HC final, Drennan struck for 1-8 in an impressive display against Saffrons who stayed closed with the visitors for long stages in the wet and windy conditions in west Belfast.

Drennan’s goal came in the 13th minute and it ushered the Cats towards a 1-10 to 0-9 half-time lead.

Conal Cunning’s frees were helping the Glensmen stay in touch while Paddy Burke was outstanding for them at the back.

Cunning (2) sailed over frees that had Antrim within two points of the Leinster champions with three minutes left in normal time, but Billy Ryan, Martin Keoghan (2) and Drennan were able shoot the points that sealed the win for Derek Lyng’s men.
