A Cork GAA club is appealing for help after vandalism caused extensive damage to their playing pitches and saw club equipment stolen and set on fire.

Macroom GAA said the vandals burned a large plot of a pitch last Friday night, 8 May, and the damage done may be "irreparable."

"The club was beyond angry and upset this morning to find part of our playing pitches destroyed and damaged," Macroom GAA tweeted on Saturday morning.

"Club equipment was stolen and set fire to and then they burned a large plot of the pitch last night as you will see from the photos [see Tweet attached] - the damage of the pitch may be irreparable.

"The club volunteers makes every effort to put these pitches in the best condition possible so that the children and youth of Macroom have a safe enjoyable place to train and play and that all ages are well catered for.

"Whoever did this has caused a lot of criminal damage and we have reported it to the gardai, if anybody has any idea of who caused this please report it confidentially to the gardai in Macroom."

Gardai in Macroom are investigating the incident and anyone with information should contact them.
