Corofin, Stars, Mountbellew and Salthill maintain winning ways in Galway SFC

Corofin, Tuam Stars, Mountbellew-Moylough and Salthill-Knocknacarra all maintained winning ways in the second round of the Galway senior football championship today.

Reigning champions Mountbellew-Moylough made it two wins from two in Group 2 when beating An Cheathrú Rua 3-16 to 0-11 with Barry McHugh (2) and Patrick Kelly (penalty) netting the goals at Pearse Stadium. The other fixtures in that group saw the John O'Mahony managed Salthill-Knocknacarra claim a 1-18 to 1-8 victory against Annaghdown and Bearna spring a surprisingly easy 4-12 to 0-7 win at the expense of St James'.

Also at Pearse Stadium, Kevin Johnston's Corofin chalked up another comfortable success in Group 1 by accounting for 2021 intermediate champions Naomh Anna, Leitir Móir, 3-24 to 0-9. In the same group, Tuam Stars ran out 0-16 to 0-8 winners over An Spideál.

There were also two fixtures down for decision in Group 3 where Milltown defeated St Michael’s 3-7 to 1-10 and Claregalway overcame Caherlistrane by 3-12 to 0-9.

The action continues at Pearse Stadium tomorrow as Monivea-Abbey take on Killannin (2pm) and Oughterard meet Maigh Cuilinn (3.45pm).
