Murphy set to see action but MacNiallais ruled out of Ulster SFC opener

Donegal duo Michael Murphy and Odhran MacNiallais.

Donegal have received a boost in time for Sunday's Ulster SFC opener after manager Declan Bonner revealed that captain Michael Murphy is ready for action, but Odhran MacNiallais won't be facing Down at Pairc Esler.

The Tir Chonaill men have been left sweating over the fitness of Murphy who suffered a hamstring tear in the draw against Monaghan last month.

While offering a positive update on the Glenswilly talisman, Bonner told BBC Sport earlier today that MacNiallais will play no part as he recovers from a soft tissue injury.

"Michael is not far away at this stage now. We'd be very hopeful that he will be available for Sunday," the Donegal boss said.

He added: "We train tonight and train Thursday night. We'll make our decision after those two training sessions but at the minute he's good to go."

"Odhran MacNiallais will not be part of it at the weekend. He picked up a soft tissue injury against Dublin in the first half so he'll not be in contention."
