Paul Carty has relinquished his role as manager of the Wexford ladies footballers just days after their relegation from Division 2.

The Maudlintown native announced his resignation in the wake of Sunday's crushing 11-7 to 0-11 defeat by Tyrone after almost two years in charge, having taken over the reins from Anthony Masterson at the end of the 2019 season.

The Wexford Ladies Football Management Committee thanked Paul for his commitment and now begin the search for his replacement ahead of the upcoming All-Ireland intermediate championship campaign.

"Wexford Ladies Football regrettably announce the resignation of Paul Carty as manager of the Wexford Intermediate Ladies Football Team following a difficult league campaign," the Wexford Ladies Football Management Committee said in a statement.

"The management of Wexford Ladies would like to thank Paul for his work over the last two years with the team and wish him the very best going forward.

"It has been a difficult transition period for Paul with a number of younger players entering into the squad while trying to compete with Senior teams.

"Our Chairman Denis Nolan is now currently working on putting a replacement team in place and details will be announced as soon as possible."
