The Munster Council have pushed back the start date of the provincial MFC by two weeks and admit that decisions on the championships format will have to be taken.

Phase 1 of the Munster MFC was due to start in a little over two weeks time with Tipperary playing Clare and Limerick versus Waterford. Now games have been changed to 22 April with provision that this date could change again.

With a number of counties, including Limerick, having already stated that there will be no club activity until at least the end of April, the new start date by the Munster Council looks optimistic at this point.

A decision on what the format of the Munster SHC and MHC, which are currently run on a league basis, and the SFC and U20HC will be made when the current restrictions are lifted.

Munster GAA statement

The Electric Ireland Munster Minor Football Championship is scheduled to commence on Wednesday April 8th. With all GAA activity suspended at present until March 29th, the Munster CCC (in consultation with all Munster Counties) have agreed that when the current restrictions are lifted, counties will be given ample time to prepare their teams. Based on the information to hand at this moment, the earliest start date for the Electric Ireland Munster Minor Football Championship will be Wednesday April 22nd with proposed fixtures re-fixed as follows - https://munster.gaa.ie/fixtures/minor

If the ban on collective training and games is extended beyond March 29th, then Munster GAA take the appropriate action, based on the information to hand at that stage. No decisions on the format / scheduling of the other 2020 Munster Championship fixtures (Senior Hurling, Senior Football, Under 20 Hurling and Minor Hurling grades) can be made at this time until the current restrictions are lifted.
