Louth 1-9

Meath 0-10

Sam Mulroy scored the only goal from a second half penalty as Louth got the better of neighbours Meath in Pairc Tailteann.

Both sides were in experimental mode for this local derby clash which finished as a 14-a-side affair after Jason Scully (Meath) and Paul Matthews (Louth) received second yellow cards in injury-time.

The visitors had a strong wind behind them in the opening half, but only led by 0-6 to 0-4 at the break thanks to the accurate free-taking of Mulroy and a fine effort by centre back Cathal Bellew late in the half.

Meath regained parity shortly after the restart through points from Matthew Costello (free) and Thomas O'Reilly before Mulroy sent a 42nd minute penalty pass Dominic Yorke after Louth midfielder Tommy Durnin had been brought down.

Oisín O’Brien kicked the home side's second point from an advanced mark and Costello was on target again as they reduced the gap to two points. Mulroy and Thomas O'Reilly traded late points as Wayne Kierans' charges claimed the local bragging rights.
