Tipperary football boss David Power says physical and mental fatigue is an issue for inter-county players these days.

Last Sunday saw the curtain coming down on Tipp’s season after exiting the Tailteann Cup at the hands of Carlow.

Speaking to TippFM Sport, Power spoke of challenges facing elite players nowadays and described them as “tough going for a so-called amateur sport”.

“Lads have to have down time as well. Where do the top elite players get down time now?” asked Power.

“I don’t see it because the top players are probably with good clubs who are going to have long seasons.

“Once the league starts, you’re out either every week or every seven weeks – so you’re out playing seven matches over eight weekends in reality.

“That is tough going for a so-called amateur sport.”
