Bonnar takes Tipp reins

September 08, 2021

Colm Bonnar.

Colm Bonnar has been appointed as the new Tipperary senior hurling boss on a three-year term.

Bonnar replaces Liam Sheedy, whose second term ended with a seven-point defeat to Waterford in the All-Ireland quarter-final two months ago.

The Cashel King Cormacs clubman brings a wealth of experience to the role having previously been involved with the Tipp seniors as selector and led Waterford IT to six Fitzgibbon Cup successes while he coached Ballyhale Shamrocks to the 2015 All-Ireland SHC title.

He also managed Wexford and more recently Carlow, who he guided from the Christy Ring Cup to the Liam MacCarthy Cup.

Meanwhile, five-time All-Star goalkeeper Brendan Cummins will take charge of the Tipperary U20 hurlers, with Fintan O'Connor as coach.

Cummins worked alongside O'Connor during his time as a selector with Kerry.

The news was confirmed in a statement by Tipperary GAA this evening.
