New Corofin boss Kevin Johnson.

Kevin Johnson has been appointed as the new Corofin manager.

The Sligo native will replace Kevin O'Brien who stepped down last month after the reigning All-Ireland club champions' surprise defeat to Mountbellew-Moylough in the Galway SFC final.

Johnson led Tourlestrane to their sixth successive Sligo SFC title this year, having taken over from Eamonn O’Hara and Gerry McGowan at the end of last season.

Before that, he managed Ballintubber to back-to-back Mayo SFC crowns in 2018 and 2019.

The Salthill secondary school teacher is a familiar figure in Galway football circles through his past involvement with the county academy system and Salthill-Knocknacarra.

Meanwhile, retired Corofin duo Kieran Fitzgerald and Ciaran McGrath have linked up with Mayo SFC hopefuls Garrymore.

The four-time All-Ireland club SFC winners will be part of manager Damien Egan's backroom team for 2022.
