Late goals seal Connacht FL final berth for Roscommon after high-scoring encounter

January 08, 2022

Roscommon are up and running.

Two goals in injury-time from Enda Smith and Ben O’Carroll sealed a first win for Roscommon at the new Connacht GAA Air Dome this evening as they defeated Sligo in a high-scoring encounter, 3-23 to 0-21.

Anthony Cunningham will now see his side face Galway in the Connacht FL final at the Bekan venue next Friday night.

Their opening goal came through Diarmuid McGann in first-half injury-time and helped them into a 1-13 to 0-9 interval lead while there was still time for Conor Carroll to pull off a penalty save from Niall Murphy at the other end.

Having trailed from the outset, the Yeats County kept plugging away but were overly reliant on converted frees from Murphy, who finished with 0-13 to his name, adding to his 1-10 tally against Leitrim here on Monday night.

The Coolera-Strandhill clubman had cut the deficit down to four points in the 50th minute, but his side were finally put to the sword when Smith and O’Carroll struck late on.
