Incredible comeback sees Rossies into Connacht MFC final

August 01, 2021

Roscommon came from 11 points down to defeat Galway in the Connacht MFC semi-final at Tuam Stadium

Roscommon minor footballers produced a remarkable comeback against Galway yesterday to move into next Friday’s Connacht final.

Enda Nugent’s side had been 11 points down in the first-half before storming to a 1-16 to 2-12 victory at Tuam Stadium.

Roscommon had kicked the opening two points before their opponents took total control of the provincial semi-final, hitting an answered 2-7 that looked to have them with one foot in the decider.

Jack Folan’s point stopped the rot for the visitors and a couple of Bobby Nugent points would leave it at 2-8 to 0-6 at the break.

Nugent (3) and DJ Hession arrowed over points that left four in it come the water break and from there the victors bossed things.

Robert Heneghan’s goal after the water break was perfectly timed and come the hour mark Nugent would have Roscommon level (2-11 to 1-14).

Nugent popped over a gem to steer his side in front in the third minute of injury-time prior to Oran midfielder Shane Walsh ensuring that the comeback was complete.

The Rossies now take on Sligo at Dr Hyde Park this coming Friday evening.
