Offaly advanced to a first All-Ireland minor hurling championship final in 33 years by defeating Clare on a 2-16 to 0-18 score-line at Semple Stadium last night.
Adam Screeney and Conor Doyle supplied the crucial goals in either half for the Faithful lads and they’d defend like demons to the finish in order to get the famous result over the line.
Speaking afterwards, manager Leo O’Connor described the win as being “just absolutely brilliant” for the supporters of Offaly.
“It’s brilliant for the people of Offaly that they’re in an All-Ireland final again. Two in two years now, the U20 football final last year,” he told TG4 Sport after the final whistle in Thurles.
“So, from that point of view, it’s absolutely brilliant.”
Paying credit to his players, who now look forward to a decider date with either Tipperary or Galway on July 2nd, O’Connor added:
“In fairness to them, they’re a very level-headed bunch of lads. It’s work rate and it’s what they do for the county now.”
