The late, great Pat Smullen was much-loved and highly thought of at his local Rhode GAA club.
Rhode GAA members organised a stationary guard of honour at the funeral of the nine-time Irish champion jockey and Derby winning rider on September 18, and they honoured his memory in the best possible fashion by claiming a record 30th Offaly SFC title two weeks later.
Following Rhode's landmark Dowling Cup success, members of their team and management visited Pat's mother Mary and presented her with a signed number 30 jersey in his memory. Smullen, who sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer, was feted by Rhode GAA for his achievements at their annual dinner dance in the Tullamore Court Hotel in 2017.
Members of Senior Team and Management made a special visit to Mary Smullen where they made a presentation of no 30 Jersey signed by them all in memory of her late Son the great Pat Smullen. The Jersey will be framed for the Smullen Family 💚💛 pic.twitter.com/oe2lcww6NQ
