Ballycumber GAA Club notes

August 20, 2019

Ballycumber GAA Club.

Tullamore Court Hotel Senior B Football Championship.

Ballycumber 1—13   Ferbane  2---8.

Ballycumber travelled through Ferbane to play Ferbane in Shannonbridge on Saturday evening and came home with a very valuable two point victory. Playing with the wind in the first half Ballycumber played some outstanding football and had a 1—7 to 0—2 lead at half time. Ferbane opened the scoring with a point from play to which Sean Hackett replied after receiving a pass from Clive Keena. Cormac Quinn went on a run through the heart of the defence and passed the ball to Joe Lowry who quickly drove the ball to the back of the net. Cormac scored the next point from play and Ferbane replied with a point from a free. Ballycumber added points from Sean Creevy, Gary Larkin, Joe Lowry and two from Sean Hackett. Sean got the first score of the second half after being put in the clear with a series of hand passes. Joe Lowry pointed a free and Cormac Quinn punched the ball over the crossbar. Ferbane got their first of the half from a free and followed up with a goal, when a shot from out the field found its way into the net. This score energised Ferbane and they added two points to narrow the gap to five points. Joe Lowry pointed a difficult free against the wind and Ferbane got a similar score. They got through for a second goal which was bundled into the net after a shot from out the field was prevented from going wide and hand passed across the goalmouth. Joe Lowry got another point after receiving a good pass from Gary Larkin and he added another to stretch the lead. But Ferbane kept attacking and were rewarded with a point from a free and another from play and with just two points separating the sides, the last few minutes were hard on the nerves of supporters.
