Oisin McConville has taken his first steps into inter-county management after being appointed Wicklow's new senior football boss.

The 2002 All-Ireland winning Armagh forward last night emerged as a surprise replacement for Alan Costello and Gary Duffy, who took over as joint-managers on an interim basis back in March following Colin Kelly's sudden departure due to work commitments.

"Wicklow GAA Management Committee will recommend to Wicklow Co Board that Oisin McConville be appointed as Wicklow Senior Football Manager," Wicklow GAA confirmed the news on Twitter.

"Oisin’s experience as a player, coach and manager will bring energy and enthusiasm to the role. 

"His backroom team will be confirmed in the coming weeks."

The Crossmaglen Rangers clubman had been linked to the vacant Monaghan manager’s position since Seamus McEnaney stepped down this past summer, while he was part of Ray Dempsey’s proposed management ticket in Mayo.

McConville is currently in charge of Monaghan SFC hopefuls Inniskeen Grattans, and has also managed his native Crossmaglen, Meath side Seneschalstown and Dundalk IT, whom he led to Trench Cup glory for the first time in 2016.
