Ger Brennan has ruled himself out of the running to be the next Monaghan senior football manager.

It’s widely reported that the former Dublin All-Ireland winning defender and current Moorefield boss was the Monaghan management committee’s preferred choice to fill the vacancy. He was interviewed for the role, only to later withdraw his candidacy.

Like Ulster rivals Donegal, Monaghan would appear to be no closer to appointing a new manager after Dublin cult hero Jason Sherlock and Brendan Hackett – the former Monaghan Harps clubman who managed Longford, Offaly and Westmeath – also pulled out of the race to succeed Seamus ‘Banty’ McEnaney, who stepped down over two months ago.
