Toome club notes

September 21, 2021

U17s: The U17s Óglaigh Naomh Buach, meet Seans NaMullai once again, this time in the Division 2 Championship, Friday 24th September in Corduff under lights at 8:00pm. This is certain to be a thrilling game and we are counting on all supporters to be sure and get behind the team #BeThe16thMan. We ask all parents to ensure they complete the Return to Play questionnaire prior to each session and match. Training continues with the minors in Corduff and Toome.

Senior Team: Our seniors enjoyed a very comprehensive win on Sunday last in round 3 of the Group 1 Championship against Currin. Taking nothing away from the lads and the wonderful brand of football we have come to enjoy this year, Currin were not at the races at all in this fixture. There was much excitement from within the team and the side-lines on how they were going to handle Jack McCarron, unfortunately Jack suffered a facial injury after coming down from a challenge and was taken off the field before the 15-minute mark. All at Toome, the players and members wish Jack a speedy recovery. This was a fantastic display by the lads, and they performed to a very high standard in this match and faced some tough tackling and challenges. The work rate and dedication of this team is second to none. The team is hugely grateful to all who came out in support of them. Once again there was a great turnout of support for the team, and it was great to see so many faces returning to Toome, the 16th Man really does have a positive effect. The game started off with the visitors scoring the first point, but it was all Toome after that with scores coming from William with 2 frees, James with an outstanding score and a goal and another point to follow, then it was Paddy with a point and a well taken goal after a great bit of work from Mattie, Water Break 2:05 -0:01. After the water break it did not get any better for Currin who found themselves down a man after Conor Smyth who was already on a Yellow, received a Black Card and thus a Red was produced. Toome kept the scores coming with Frank, James and William, 2 of these scores worth a special mention first James with a well worked and tough point having 3 men pulling and hanging off him to slot it over the bar and William scoring a free from the side-line at the 13m marker off the ground, HT Score 2:10 - 0:02, the first period of the second half was a quiet affair for Toome with Currin gaining 4 scores in this period to Toome's 3 points, via 2 frees from William and Frank, the other a point from play by William, water break 2:13 - 0:06. The game was wrapped up heading into the last period following the water break, but the lads stayed committed and seen this game off to the death. It was Frank and William again with 2 frees, then James with another score from play, Jason was up next with a great run and was rewarded for his days' work with a score, Liam McCooey was up next with a wonderful score after some nice passing and movement with the ball. Frank with another superbly taken free, Sean McMahon next after another good shift at the middle of the field and William to seal the deal with 2 from play at the end. All in all, this was not the challenge the lads expected, but at the same time these men are not easy to play against and the work rate is extraordinary, movement off the ball and team spirit makes this side a special team and one that is very rewarding to watch. A huge well done to the team and management. FT Score Toome 2:22 - 0:06 Currin. Scorers: James 1:05 (F), William 0:08 (4F), Frank 0:05 (4F), Paddy 1:01, Jason, Liam & Seán 0:01.
The senior team are next out in the Championship fixture on Sunday 3rd October AWAY v Scotstown at 14:00. Be sure to come out and Be The 16th Man.
