U17s: The U17s Óglaigh Naomh Buach, played Seans NaMullai in the Division 2 Shield Final on Saturday last, 11th September in Cremartin. This was a thrilling game that was played at a high tempo and in a tough competitive spirit by both teams. The lads put in a fabulous performance and gave it 100% for the full match, the team effort and work rate of each and every player was the key to the lads winning this match. From the goal line right the way through the field to the forwards every man worked and supported each other. After a shaky start to the season and the lads not being familiar with one another the turnaround has been immense, credit to all the team and in particular the management for getting the lads to become a team and believe in themselves. These have become a good tight knit bunch and really showed their strength in the game when Seans NaMullai started to come back at them and ply on the pressure. This is when our lads dug in and put in the hard yards, the work rate of the backs was phenomenal, and their discipline was extraordinary. The game started out with two penalties in the first 4 minutes of the game, first up was Joey who missed on the first attempt but coolly slotted it home on the rebound. Seans NaMullai scored there's and we were level and nothing much between these sides, with two further scores from Joey that were matched by the opposition, Tom  was up next and he only had his eyes on one place for the ball and that was the goal net and the lads were out in front by 3, Joey extended this with a free and then it was Sean who scored a fiercely well taken goal to put 7 between the sides at the water break, 3:03 - 1:02. The next period was very nip and tuck with the lads gaining scores from Joey (2), Tadgh and Shane, only for the Seans NaMullai lads to respond with 5 in this period. HT Score - 3:07 - 1:07. The second half saw some great combative play from both sides, Thomas opened the scoring here after a great ball in from Sean, Seans NaMullai pulled another back with a free only for Joey to score 3 on the bounce to take us to the second water break of the match 3:11 - 1:08. In the final period Seans NaMullai as expected threw everything at the lads, this is where they really came into their own and dug in. Giving away a goal at the start of this period brought us back to 6 and Seans NaMullai were trying as hard as they could to pile on the pressure. Joey pulled another free back and then it was 3 scores from the McMahons, Thomas then Joey and Tom, Sean was up next followed by the final nail from Tom. The final 15 minutes really was the period that saw these lads show what they were all about. Final Score: Óglaigh Naomh Buach 3:17 Seans NaMullai. Congratulations to the team and management, you all really deserved this win. A great turnout of support was shown on the day and thanks to the senior team players who came out to support the future. Well done to Joey on delivering a modest and well delivered speech with a special mention to one of his team members who was unavailable for the fixture but played an instrumental part this year and helped get them to this final, Darren McNally, we look forward to having you back at training soon and giving the lads that extra push for the championship. We ask all parents to ensure they complete the Return to Play questionnaire prior to each session and match. Training continues with the minors in Corduff and Toome.

Reserves: The reserves match against Killeevan in the FRC McKeown Cup was played on Tuesday last, 7th September in Cloghan under the lights. Killeevan were stricken with a few injuries and players that were unavailable on the night. Not to take anything away from the Toome lads but this was not as challenging a match as our previous encounters with Killeevan this year. The lads gave a great exhibition of football and controlled the game from start to finish playing some great football throughout. It must be commended the great support that showed up on the night for Toome and everyone got behind the team. This was a fantastic win and now brings the Reserves into the FRC McKeown Cup final, opposition of this match is yet undecided with the winners of Truagh v Clontibret playing out the other semi-final against Currin. The lads will be surely ready for this encounter and once again will be calling on your support. A great night in Cloghan under the lights with a final score of Toome 3:20 - 2:11 Killeevan.
