Dunshaughlin 2-9 Dunsany 2-8
Dunshaughlin emerged victorious from an A league Division 2B encounter with Dunsany after a keenly and closely contested game at the Dunsany grounds.
Both teams played better against the strong wind blowing from the road end and Dunshaughlin held a 1-4 to 0-4 lead at half time. Dunsany started the better and had three points on the scoreboard before Dunshaughlin’s first point, from Andy Leneghan. Cathal McCormack added another, five minutes later, and the crucial score of the half came when Seán O Neill gathered a centre and shot to the net. Wes Goodwin rounded off the half with two well-taken points from frees.
The game looked beyond Dunsany’s reach by the eight minute of the second half when Goodwin finished off a brilliant Dunshaughlin move initiated by Adam McDermott’s kick-out. The black and ambers moved the ball at pace via Aidan Fraher, Shane Gallogly and Conor Mooney to Goodwin who slotted the ball to the net. However, Dunsany hauled themselves back into the game with three points by the fifteenth minute and though Dunshaughlin answered in equal measure through Goodwin, Mark Devanney and Ger Geoghegan, Dunsany returned to scoring in the final ten minutes.
In this period they put extreme pressure on the visitors’ defence, scoring 2-1 in the process, the latter a penalty which gave them a single point lead and looked like depriving Dunshaughlin of a deserved win. Dunshaughlin had wasted a number of scoring chances prior to the turn around and it took two late points from Adam McDermott from a 45 and Conor Mooney with another to give them a merited but hard earned victory.
