FL Div 4 final: Second title for Castletown

Castletown 3-19 Slane 2-9

After winning the Corn na Boinne in April Castletown were back in the winners enclosure after this comfortable victory over Slane in the Division 4 Football League final. Cortown GFC provided the perfect setting in front of a very large crowd.

Matthew Tully had Slane on the scoreboard first. Castletown replied with a brilliant goal from Kevin Ross and a point from the impressive Darragh Weldon. Slane got it back to a one point lead with ten minutes remaining but were hit by five unanswered scores from Justin Carry Lynch’s men, included a two pointer from Rian McConnell. Castletown went in at the break 1-8 to 0-6 in front.

The team in Green and Gold were quick out of the blocks in the second half. Adam Matthews pointed before McConnell waltzed through for their second goal. Eanna Mooney gave Slane a lifeline with a goal, his penalty kicked was saved by keeper Johnny Ginnitty but with the aid of the post his follow up ended up in the net. Castletown responded in style. A McConnell brace, another from Weldon and their third goal from half back Daragh Kelly put the Corn na Boinne champions in control. Substitute Niall Carolan got Slane’s second goal as injury time approached but by then Castletown were well on their way to trophy number 2 for 2025.

After the game Larry McEntee presented the Division 3 cup to joint captains Shane Hoey and Kevin Ross.
