U15 Div 5: Michaels Nobber booked semi final spot

June 25, 2022

Korede Otubango gains possession ahead of Conor Larkin (Carnaross)

St. Michaels/Nobber 5-10, Carnaross 3-09

The St. Michaels / Nobber lads made safe their place in the semi-final of the O'Reilly & Co Solicitors U-15 FL  in Carlanstown but only after surviving an almighty scare from Carnaross in this division 5 quarter final encounter.

The home side needed a late goal from Fionn Murray to eventually see off the challenge of Carnaross who had battled back from an eleven point deficit early into the second period to leave just two between the sides entering the final four minutes.

The home side were the deserved leaders at the half time whistle as goals from Korede Otubango, Sean Behan and Stephen Dolan Stafford gave them a 3-7 to 1-4 interval lead.

A point apiece from C.J. Lynch and Fionn Murray stretched that lead to eleven points two minutes into the new half but then the home side sat back to admire their good work and didn't score again until Murray stopped the rot in the 54th minute with a point from play. Carnaross to their credit never gave up and sensing that the game was there for the taking came storming back into contention chipping away at the deficit at every opportunity to bring it back to a two point game with four minutes remaining on the clock.

As the minutes ticked away Sean Behan broke through the tight Carnaross defence for a much needed goal which was followed in the first minute of added time by another major from Fionn Murray to secure a place in the semi-final.
