SHC: Second win for Kilmessan

September 20, 2021

Kilmessan's Darren Reilly

Kilmessan 3-17 Wolfe Tones 1-13

Kilmessan picked up their second win in Group B of the Meath Senior Hurling Championship with ten points to spare over Wolfe Tones at Dunderry.

A draw in their opening round with Killyon and a 2-17 to 2-12 win over Blackhall Gaels last time out leaves Kilmessan a point being group leaders Dunboyne.

Four points from Darren Reilly and one from Declan Smyth put Kilmessan 0-5 to 0-1 up but by half time Wolfe Tones had narrowed to the gap to 0-9 to 0-7.

The lead was down to the minimum in the early stages of the second half but a good run from Kevin Kenna led to the ball finishing with Stephen Clynch and the county selector found the Tones net for the games opening goal. Clynch and Reilly added points but again Wolfe Tones hit back with a goal to leave it 1-15 to 1-12 heading in to the closing stages.

Kilmessan upped the tempo and finished with 2-2, Darren Reilly and Joey Kenna getting the goals to close out proceedings.

Next up for the winners are Clann na nGael.
