JFC: Dominant Vincents maintain winning ways

St. Vincents 0-11 Castletown 1-5

St. Vincent’s kept up their winning run with a dominant display against Castletown in Duleek on Sunday evening.

St. Vincent’s led from the first minute with a point from the outstanding Jack Byrne and this was a lead they never lost. Nigel Hand got his first point of the day in the 3rd minute. Castletown got their first and only score of the half in the 6th minute from a free. The Vincent’s defence was in excellent form hunting down every Castletown attack and only leaving them with difficult opportunities.  The next two points for St. Vincent’s came from the two wing backs Gary Tuite and Connor Harford.  Nigel Hand free another point for Jack Byrne saw the Vincent’s lead 0-6 v 0-1 at half time. 

The second half was a closer affair with the Vincent’s being a little wasteful in attack but by the final water break they outscored Castletown 3 points v 2 points.   The Vincent’s points coming from Eoghan Corry, Nigel Hand (f) and Eric Callaghan.  Castletown got another point back from their free in the 47th minute but then in the 50th minute Castletown full forward got a straight red.  St. Vincent’s dominated procession for the last ten minutes but only scored only 2 further points from Nigel Hand and Tommy Fields and Castletown got a point. In the dying moments the referee awarded Castletown a penalty which just escaped the diving Evan Connor to leave the final score 0-11 v 1-5.
