Feis Cup: 'DonAsh no match for Dunboyne

June 17, 2021

Donaghmore Ashbourne keeper Jack Hannigan

Donaghmore Ashbourne 0-11  St. Peter's Dunboyne 2-15

Dunboyne opened the scoring with a fine point from their full forward Donal Lenihan. The home side settled and got the next 3 points from Dylan Brady, Kevin Fenton and a free from Michael Deegan to leave it 3pts to 1 pt after 6 minutes of play.

Stephen Carton was next to add to the score board with a pin point kick pass from Andrew Tormey from centre field which Stephen put over the bar. Dunboyne tagged on a couple of points from play before they turned over a ball in the centre and left the home side chasing back but couldn't prevent the visitors from scoring a goal just before the first water break.

The teams traded points from frees on 20 minutes but Donaghmore were always on the back foot and Dunboyne stretched their lead with 5 points on the bounce from play and frees.

Our full back Iarlaith O'Donnell went off injured after 20 minutes which seem to unsettle the team. Dunboyne probably should have had another goal except for a brilliant save off the line from Jason Boland and subsequently from goalkeeper Jack Hannigan who claimed the high ball coming in from a 45. Stephen Carton closed the scoring for the first half with a point from play.

H/T Donaghmore/Ashbourne 0-6   St Peter's Dunboyne 1-9

Stephen Carton opened the score with a point just 2 minutes into the 2nd half.

Michael Deegan, Shaun Byrne, Leo Reilly and Simon Wilson all got on the score board but it wasn't enough to stop a very strong Dunboyne side.

While our lads played some good football and good runs from David Carr, Conor Carton and Sean Curran it just wasn't good enough to overcome a much bigger and stronger Dunboyne side who scored a 2nd goal with 27 minutes gone in the 2nd half.  Jack Hannigan was probably the hero of the half with save after save from a rampant Dunboyne team. The home side made several substitutions in the last 10 minutes and introduced some of our younger players to senior football which will give them the experience required to play at this level.
