Ballinabrackey's David Carroll

Ballinabrackey 1-12  Na Fianna 2-13

Ballinabrackey had their first home Feis Cup game against Na Fianna GAA on Wednesday evening. The Boyne Park welcomed the close neighbours for round 2 of the competition.

Both sides struck wides starting off the game, but it was Na Fianna who got the first score on the board followed by another soon after. A well blocked goal effort by Damo Carroll saw the Bracks struggle to get on the score board whilst Na Fianna retaliated quickly with another point. Just before the Water Break, Sean Kavanagh got the first score on the board for the Bracks, followed by a well taken free by David Carroll. Leaving the Water Break score at Na Fianna 0:03, Ballinabrackey 0:02.

Returning to the field, both teams started off with wide efforts, but minutes later, Na Fianna were on the attack again and worked well to get around Ballinabrackey’s defensive efforts to get their first goal. A quick rocket of a second goal from Na Fianna widened the gap to 2:03 to 0:02 points, leaving Ballinabrackey looking deflated. Na Fianna got 6 points in a row before Ballinabrackey responded with a free from Seamus Curry leaving the half time score 2-08 to 0-03.

The Bracks started well in the second half with two scores from Seamus Curry and Danny Quinn. Na Fianna responded well with two of their own.  Points from Quinner and David Carroll tightened the gap to 2:11 to 0:08 at the water break, but Na Fianna were still that step ahead throughout.

The last quarter saw a good come back from the Bracks with debuts Jack McLoughlin and Leo Cullen making strong strides. Richie Coffey rattled the back of the net gaining a much needed goal for the Bracks and the Carroll brothers, Curry and Jack McLoughlin added on good scores to tighten the gap to 4 points at the final whistle. An entertaining last quarter, but it was Na Fianna who came away with a deserved win.
