Alicia Curtis gains possession for St. Michaels against Donaghmore Ashbourne in Carlanstown

St. Michaels 2-13, Donaghmore Ashbourne 0-08

St. Michaels ladies got their 2021 division 1 league campaign off to a winning start against Donaghmore Ashbourne in a game played in perfect conditions in Carlanstown on Monday evening.

The 'Michaels first half display was all about the scoring antics of quartet Mary Clinton, Megan O'Brien, Sinéad McCormack and Seona Lynch who amassed a total of 2-5 between them in the opening 30 minutes and who were well supplied by the hard working Marion Farrelly who together with McCormack covered every blade of grass on the Carlanstown pitch.
Mary Clinton was first to raise a green flag on twelve minutes when put through by McCormack and this was quickly followed three minutes later when Megan O'Brien blasted to the net for her sides second major to lead 2-5 to 0-3 at the break.

Donaghmore Ashbourne were first off the mark in the second half as both sides traded points for the entire third quarter, however the visitors found it extremely tough to get any change out of a superb 'Michaels defence with all six defenders impressing none more so that Áine Sheridan at full back.

St. Michaels next outing is away to Seneschalstown on Monday June 21st.

St. Michaels: Sarah Bradley; Emma McDonnell, Áine Sheridan, Deirbhile Curran; Alicia Curtis (0-1), Mary Carpenter, Sheena O'Donnell; Megan O'Brien (1-1), Marion Farrelly (0-1); Roisin Nulty, Seona Lynch (0-3), Sally Keogan; Mary Clinton (1-2), Sinéad McCormack (0-4), Erin Lynch.
