Navan O’Mahony’s 6-10 Clann na nGael 0-08
It was a one-sided encounter on the Trim Road this evening when our Ladies Footballers took on Clann na nGael in the first round of the Division 2 League. O’Mahony’s had control of the game from the start and there was little doubt who would emerge victorious, even in the early stages.
After only 10 minutes, the Navan side had rattled the Clann na nGael net twice and led by 2-03 to 0-02. In the period that followed before the first half water break, Clann na nGael scored two points but these were nullified by a third goal from the girls in the hooped jerseys.
O’Mahony’s had their most dominant quarter following the first water break and more than doubled their score from the first quarter. Jacinta Maher hat-tricked while Olivia Callan, Orlaith Mallon and Ailbhe Leahy each slotted one to the net.
At half time, the hosts were leading 6-07 to 0-06.
The game was over as a contest at this stage and the second half was a much lower scoring affair. In the period between half time and the second half water break, both sides only raised the white flag once, quite a change from the earlier periods.
The period after the water break was little different, with a single point from Clann na nGael while O’Mahony’s added two points to their tally. In the end, the hosts were the clear winners on a score line of 6-10 to 0-08
Aoibhín McKenny impressed on her debut in an adult jersey and is one to watch for the future.
